Kein “unnamed Islay“ – sondern ein wunderbar gereifter Laphroaig, der den Namen der Destillerie stolz auf dem Etikett trägt! Fruchtbetonte, “old style“ Eleganz, die an alte Laphroaig von früher erinnert.
Nase:
Sofort erkennbar als alter Laphroaig - reife gelbe Früchte, kandierte Zitrone und ein Hauch tropischer Süße treffen auf die charakteristische Laphroaig-Rauchigkeit. Der Torf ist jedoch sanft und filigran gepaart mit maritimen Noten. Dahinter Noten von Bienenwachs, Vanille, und feine Kräuterwürze mit einem Hauch Apothekerschrank. Mit Zeit im Glas öffnen sich zarte Nuancen von Mango und Aprikose.
Gaumen:
Der Rauch ist zurückhaltend und gut integriert. Tropische Früchte (Mango, Papaya), Zitronenöl und reife Birne verschmelzen mit einem Anflug von Torf, Meersalz und leicht medizinischer Würze. Die Struktur ist feingliedrig, aber tief – ein typischer „Old Style Laphroaig“ aus der Vor-Millennium-Ära, wo Frucht und Rauch noch im Gleichgewicht waren
Abgang:
Lang, wärmend und vielschichtig. Maritime Noten, sanfter Rauch und Fruchtnoten verweben sich zu einem anhaltenden Finale
Fazit:
Ein Laphroaig aus einer anderen Zeit – fruchtbetont, subtil, hochkomplex und voller Anmut. Ein Meisterwerk gereifter Islay-Destillation, weit entfernt vom heutigen, eher eindimensionalen torfhaltigen Stil. So schmeckte Laphroaig, als Eleganz noch wichtiger war als Intensität.

Nose:
Immediately recognisable as old Laphroaig – ripe yellow fruits, candied lemon and a hint of tropical sweetness meet the characteristic Laphroaig smokiness. However, the peat is gentle and delicate, paired with maritime notes. Behind this are notes of beeswax, vanilla and fine herbal spices with a hint of apothecary cabinet. With time in the glass, delicate nuances of mango and apricot open up.
Palate:
The smoke is restrained and well integrated. Tropical fruits (mango, papaya), lemon oil and ripe pear blend with a hint of peat, sea salt and slightly medicinal spice. The structure is delicate but deep – a typical "old style Laphroaig" from the pre-millennium era, when fruit and smoke were still in balance.
Finish:
Long, warming and multi-layered. Maritime notes, gentle smoke and fruit notes intertwine to create a lingering finish.
Conclusion:
A Laphroaig from another era – fruity, subtle, highly complex and full of grace. A masterpiece of matured Islay distillation, a far cry from today's rather one-dimensional peaty style. This is how Laphroaig tasted when elegance was more important than intensity.
